Dean missed the boat…
Howard Dean was speaking at a Gathering of Democrats recently, discussing among other things, why they’re losing so many elections. His description of the Republicans (who happen to be winning most elections) is a very telling sign that the left is not turning things around as fast as they had hoped. In a statement to the crowd, Dean described the reasoning behind recent losses to the “Brain Dead” Republicans, is because they are too long-winded in their approach to issues. He makes it clear that the Democrats take half an hour at times to make a point on an issue when the Republicans have the ability to make their point in a quick and precise manner. He then goes on to describe how they need to work at ‘copying the Republicans’, who are masters at making their messages stick.
Did it ever occur to Dean that a main reason that Republicans are masters at making their messages stick is because the message we have, is one that the people want? No that couldn’t be it, we all know the Democrats have the answers, there MUST be another reason.

They have to be longwinded to make thier lies resemble the truth. The truth is simple and that is why it sticks.

Hey there friend!
I don’t agree with you. I think Dean has a point that many Democrats are long-winded. The message the Republicans have, however, is not a good one much of the time. I mean, how good can it be that you are going to cut benefits and make it harder to get a good education with education cutbacks? How cheerful is it that you are giving companies more taxbreaks while all but eliminating bankruptcy (many of those who use this are those with massive medical bills)? Oh that’s right! You guys leave these things out of your campaigns! Not to be rude, friend, but take a real good look at what your people say and what they do.

I guess it’s similar to how the Democrats find it ‘horrifying and sickening’ to find out about the Prison Abuse ’scandal’ yet somehow find themselves speechless when the media are all over the Terri Schiavo case. Kind of odd how their ‘civil rights’ speeches seem to be saved for when it’s politically expedient.

If Republicans’ message is what people want, then why do they have to resort to deception 90% of the time?
James: The torture of prisoners and the case of Terri Schiavo couldn’t be more different (see above). Try informing yourself with facts instead of propaganda. And no, I’m not a Democrat.

Terri is being tortured, plain and simple. They starve her, then feed her, then starve her, and now they’re going to let her starve to death. To ME that is 1000 times worse than anything that went on with the Iraq Scandal.

Strangely enough, the one piece of Dean’s little speech there that is correct, is the part where he says that Dems need to be more like Republicans.
Now…here is the REAL reason that the Democratic party loses so many races.
They are combative. They are sensationalist. They are conspiracy theorists. They are dishonest. They are tax-and-spend liberals.
It’s not a coincidence that the democratic party has struggled to gain ground in the “red” states, and at the same time, they nominated John Kerry (the most liberal senator) for president, and they elected Dean (the most liberal governor in history) as head of the DNC. The party has moved left of their base. The liberal wing of the democratic party is NOT their base – it is the “conservative” democrats like Zell Miller.
Tell me why Michael Moore and Jimmy Carter sat next to each other at the DNC.
Tell me why they block every single presidential appointment if that appointment is opposed to abortion…
And those are just a few examples. The democratic party loses elections because they have moved left of their base.

I agree with Casey to a degree. I think the Democrats have moved in general a bit too far left. It doesn’t mean they are bad or evil, just slightly mistaken. As a “moderate” Democrat, I would like to see a slight reversal. But just the same, I see most things the GOP does on a national scale to be just plain scary as far as national wellbeing is concerned.

When you guys are finished figuring out which party is more dishonest or has the most pleasant messages, maybe you can approach:
-overpopulation
-national debt
-deficit
-over dependence on industrialization
-inefficient usage of resources as the norm and acceptable
Let me know when you’re done splintering so we can work together on these issues and others. These are problems that are the shared responsibility of the right and left, and indeed, everybody contributing to them. That’s most of us.

r.s. woods,
Your attempt to gain the moral high ground and pretend not to be partisan has failed. Your political cover is blown. Your message will now self-destruct.
