Dead Air

Lefties

After one whole year on the radio waves, Air America is losing ground slowly but surely. They’re spending too much time and money trying to mirror Conservative talk radio stars with the Liberal equivalent.

The main problem as I see it, is this… they’re going about this all wrong, America doesn’t want to hear Anti-Talk Radio, they want entertainment and news. From the few times I have listened to their broadcasts, they spend their alloted time, screaming and pointing fingers, as well as ranting on conspiracy theories etc. It was very depressing. Even a liberal friend of mine felt very depressed and downtrodden after only an hour of Franken. America doesn’t listen to Talk Radio so that they can feel depressed and run down, they listen for news and/or entertainment value. I listen to Rush Limbaugh, because of the way he energizes people in both positive and negative ways. Sure, he IS a pompous egomaniac, but he does his job VERY well. His job is to entertain.

Air America’s Flagship station WLIB is flopping even worse than the all-Caribbean station it replaced. Industry surveys show that talk-radio fans vote in greater percentages than the general public, tend to be college-educated and read more magazines and newspapers than the average American. So what makes the Conservative version so much more successful?

Entertainment Value - The mere fact that the Political Correctness Crowd lives on the left, therefore making it very difficult for a Liberal talk-show host to satire without offending someone.

Market - Political consultant Dick Morris explains: “Large percentages of liberals are black and Hispanic, and they now have their own specialized entertainment radio outlets, which they aren’t likely to leave for liberal talk radio.” Leaving the “White-Liberal” market for AAR to feed from and they’ll have to steal them from NPR.

We need to do our best to keep Air America on the air waves… if they start seeing Air America as a lost cause, one can only see them lobbying Congress to regulate talk radio out of existence. Just look at the failed Fairness Doctrine the Democrats keep wanting to reinstate. Talk Radio simply wasn’t an entity before Reagan’s time.

I’ve never understood WHY the left is so incensed over Talk Radio’s rightward lean, it’s a Radio Station, and last time I checked, tuning into an AM station took effort on the part of the listener so it isn’t like you’re forced to listen.

If Rush Limbaugh wasn’t entertaining, then I wonder how else he garners 15 million listeners a week.
