Subsidies for heating

Well, it looks like people in the great state of Oklahoma won’t have to be worrying about their heating bills. The local state government is working on subsidies for “poor” families that can’t afford their heating bills this winter.

I’m going to have to take a cue from Neal Boortz on this one. Put together an investigative department. Their job is to do the following. Build a list of all of these “poor” families that need assistance, pay each and every one a visit to inspect their living conditions. Confiscate any flat screen TV’s, luxury cars, expensive cell phones and Abercrombie clothing. Sell them, and return THAT money to the family to pay their heating bills.

On my way to symphony rehearsals when I was in High School, I had to drive through a fairly ‘low rent’ section of town to get to the University where we rehearsed. What got me was that I would drive by houses that were literally LEANING one way or another, in serious need of repair. In the driveway would be a brand new corvette and visible through the oddly always open front door would be the obligatory 52″ flat screen TV that must be an absolute necessity to survive in that neighborhood.

I would bet my right arm that these people have a “hard time” paying their bills, and lobby their local government officials for “assistance” when all they REALLY need is to get their priorities in line.

My heating bills are in the hundreds because our local energy company thinks they need to pull million dollar rate increases 2-3 times a year, but you know what? I cut back where it’s not needed, and allot that money towards keeping my children fed and warm.
