While cutting off trade, jobs, and basically "virtually" locking off Mexico from the US SOUNDS like a good idea, the only thing I can see it doing, is turning Mexico into an even larger pile of sewage than it already is.

Putting sanctions on such a country would NOT stop its citizens from fleeing to the US; in fact it would worsen their situation, making the US even more intriguing.

Just out of curiosity, how would someone on your “side of the fence” deal with a Government that outwardly supports and aids in the illegal ‘exportation’ of its citizens to your country?

It's a sovereign nation and can do whatever it wants within its borders. It's the same question France, Canada, Sweden, etc ask when the United States elects a leader that does things they don't like -- and the answer is the same: The only option you have is political or economic pressure.

The solution to the immigration problem isn't to turn the United States into a huge gated community. NAFTA is a big part of the solution, because it lets the manufacturing jobs move down there, instead of having the workers move up here.

Show me where the map for building concrete walls is, and I'll be the first one there to start.

Excellent blog you have, by the way. I'm gonna link you up on mine (the "With Sticks and Stones" one, not my personal mental stuff), but if you would prefer for me to remove it, just let me know.

There was just a 3/4 mile long tunnel 85 feet below the ground found in Texas that went across the border. They found a bunch of marijuana and other drugs in there.

Consider, not only the fact that there are illegal aliens crossing through tunnels like this, but also the likelihood that there are terrorists with weapons (WMD or not) crossing these same tunnels. Not to mention the drugs.

Anyone that thinks that we should not seal the border is the epitomy of unpatriotic.

This it typical. Say you're building a wall, you get a comment about Germany. Say you're tearing one down, you get a slam about how you're tearing down government as well. I say we just do what we need to do and secure the border - forget about illegals. That's why there CALLED illegals. This whole thing is a disgrace, and anybody who argues on the side of illegals is misguided by the same idiots that think Bush is a liar and that Clinton never used the NSA to listen to private citizen's phone calls. Great job on your blog!
