links

Here are some interesting links for you. Some are new findings as of this week, some others are oldies that I use quite frequently.

eyeOS - eyeOS is an AJAX virtual desktop environment. It’s a cool proof of concept but lacking key features.

Moo.fx - Javascript transitional package, used extensively in the current design for this site.

ETSY - Web 2.0 Ebay like environment for handmade merchandise.

AJAXwrite - AJAX Web version of Microsoft Word. Write/Save/Open Word doc’s in a web interface that anyone would mistake for Office. VERY cool.

Not QUITE yet…

Technology
Vista Delay

Surprise, surprise… it seems like Microsoft won’t be able to ship Mac OS X Windows Vista in time for the holiday season. How this is big news is beyond me, as it has taken them upwards of FIVE years to get anywhere close to a release date. Vista has been plagued with delay after delay, and with recent news that it’s system requirements will keep it from running up to speed on many currently shipping models of PC, it will be a miracle (to me at least) if Vista’s sales will even come close to expectations.

86 Easter

Government, Religion

I won’t go so far as Bill O’Reilly would to claim that there is some “war on Easter” but the politically correct movement is getting quite irritating with its “someone might be offended” mantra.

A council secretary for the city of St Paul put up a fluffy bunny, easter eggs and a sign saying “Happy Easter” in her office. Note that this was a stuffed rabbit and some eggs, not a dying savior on a cross.

Tyrone Terrill (human rights director for the City) shot out an email that suggested that the display has the potential to offend non-Christians and that it needs to be taken down. Council President Kathy Lantry agreed with Mr. Terrill adding that, “It’s not the governments building to celebrate holidays. We’re a public building. We’re open to all the public.”

I’ve never understood why people act like the general public is really all that jumpy about religious symbols. If I walk into a building and there’s a pile of Hanukha decorations, being offended doesn’t even cross my mind, and I’m willing to bet that can apply to a large percentage of the general public.

The first Amendment is worded like this:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.

NOT, like this:

Neither the congress, nor any government subdivision thereof, shall take any action, or allow any action to be taken on any property owned or controlled by the government, that shall recognize the existence of any religion.

Grow up already people, get on with what you’re SUPPOSED to be doing, not breaking into a sweat over a fluffy bunny and some eggs.

Welcome to version…. ummm 38?

Personal

Well I’m sure you’ve noticed by now… things changed AGAIN :)

I’m a very fickle person when it comes to “new and cool” and when I saw that Nik @ Scary Little Monkey had released this theme, I just HAD to change again.

You’ll notice that I have collapsing link groups on the left hand side, simply click the group header you wish to open up and it will expand for you.

Also new is the “about” toggle at the head of the blog, click the button to pull down my about panel.

If you find something that is out of place or odd looking, let me know!

Isaac Hayes, is a hypocrite

Humor, Religion

If you’re a fan of South Park, you would know by now that Isaac Hayes, the voice of Chef, has decided that because of “religious” differences, that he is no longer working on South Park.

To that, I say… good riddance. Hayes has cashed many a check over the ten year span of South Park’s existence, and many of those checks were for making fun of Muslims, Christians, Jews, Hinduists, Buddists, etc… but for some reason, treading on Scientology (which is EASY to do) was over the line, spurring Hayes’ retreat.

Come ON Isaac, that excuse is so transparent! Tom Cruise got your panties in a wad?

For those of you who don’t know what I’m talking about…
