Parental Control not enough?

Media

In what I would call the most expensive waste of money on something that won’t work… the MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America), Advertising Council, National Cable and Telecommunications Association, National Association of Broadcasters, Consumer Electronics Association, major television networks and satellite TV providers are launching a $300 Million dollar campaign to teach parents how to use the “V-Chip” in their TV’s to become the Bosses of the TV.

I’ve never understood a parents total lack of control over things like TV and Video Games and their kids. It’s never seemed like a problem to me. If you’re concerned over questionable content and all you’re relying on is a stupid 4 digit passcode and a V-Chip to “protect” your kids, you’re a moron. Parents of kids in the range in question (6-15) should know that the chances of your kid being more adept at technology are VERY high, and that a simple 4 digit password takes a computer less than a half second to crack by brute force.

If you’re REALLY concerned about what your kids may be watching at home… here’s something for you to try:

1) Don’t let them have a TV in their room.
2) Install a lockable timer on the TV - This allows you to set a time where the TV will NOT work, and lock the cable and timer up where no one without a key can bypass it.

So you either eliminate the problem by removing the TV from their access, or you simply apply a physical method of bypassing control of the TV that cannot be “cracked” without physical evidence being left behind.

I’m glad someone else is wasting their money trying to teach parents what to do… cause I sure as hell wouldn’t waste my time.

It amazes me how little control parents have over their children these days.

I think if a parent can’t even exert enough authority to tell their own children when to watch TV, they’ve got problems that no V-chip is going to solve.

Here’s an idea if it is a problem…get rid of the TV. One really can have a life without the boob tube.

    It amazes me

It doesn’t amaze me, it’s makes me depressed. You’re the adult, you’ve BEEN THERE, you need to provide them with the tools to become a productive adult, not a welfare queen.
