Superior force = Peace

Government, Military

I was reading a recent article by Thomas Sowell (Senior Fellow @ the Hoover Institution, Stanford University) on the subject of power and peace.

In his article, Sowell sets down the basis for the theory that “peace” is never accomplished through talking, negotiations, cease-fires or, pretty words. Peace for a nation is reached by a show of force that surpasses those wishing harm on that nation.

I can’t really put it into words better than he has other than to say that I TOTALLY agree with him and his premise. If someone wants to do me physical harm, and it is known that in return I can (and WILL) cause him more in return… that individual will not be as brazen and willing to apply force.

Please take 10 min out of your day and read his article “Where is the West?“, it’s worth every minute.

Right on. I belive a wise man once said, “there is no peace without victory.”

Or what about “The best defense is a good offense”?

Mutually assured destruction kept old Russia and us in line during the Cold War. Could be something to the thought though I’m not sure how well it’d work against a group or nation of people prepared to die anyway.

It’s kinda like the ultimate punishment is taking your life but if you don’t give a crap then what to do.

I’ll have to read the article though. Not sure I’ve ever thought of it that way. Thanks for the link.
