Running for President TOO early?
Possible GOP candidate Newt Gingrich has said he’s not saying yes or no to an ‘08 bid for the seat, but that he won’t announce until he feels it’s right.
He says that the idea of running around, raising money and campaigning for office in January of 2007 for a position that won’t be filled until January of 2009 is ridiculous and I agree.
Personally I think that the 4 year, two term Presidency is doing a good job at making the role nothing short of a seat for a figurehead. You get elected, spend two years learning the ropes and then the remainder of your term working to get re-elected. You get re-elected, do your job for two years but have to battle for everything because you’re now a lame duck for the remainder of your term.
I think the President and Congress should be on a single term 6 year run. That way the President gets in, learns his job and has 4 years to get what he wants done and then move on. There’s no need to run a campaign while in office so you’re not distracted by mindless political crap.
With Congress you get 6 years to leave your mark and you’re finished. Congress should not be a career and those who think it is, have done little to prove that it should be.

Freedom of speech dude. I am not in favor of restricting campaigns AT ALL. Do politicians not have the right to speak as they wish at any time like the rest of us do?
