Deadly Shooting @ VT… Gun bill denied by VA legislature.

House Bill 1572 didn’t even live past subcommittee this week in Virginia’s House… The bill was designed to allow students and faculty the ability to carry concealed handguns on campus.

Virginia Tech spokesman Larry Hincker showed his approval for the defeat of the bill, stating that he is “sure the university community is appreciative of the General Assembly’s actions because this will help parents, students, faculty and visitors feel safe on our campus.”

In what many see as a sick, and tragically ironic twist on those very words, a gunman opened fire on campus of Virginia Tech this morning killing at least 32 people (as of 12:45 CST) and injuring another 21 before he himself was killed by police.

I wonder how many of those innocent lives taken by this nutjob could have been saved, if students and faculty were allowed to protect themselves rather than wait for the police to assess the situation and take action. Not that the current bill would have made a difference in this situation, but it’s a point worth bringing up towards people who are so petrified by the thought of allowing people the right to protect themselves in the face of mortal danger.

  • I agree. There are enough people in Virginia who are trained how to use guns intelligently from hunting and such. I think if people would be allowed to carry weapons something like this could be stopped, however, it also puts a lot more guns on campus which can lead to a whole new set of problems.

I feel for the kids out there, all the people I know are OK thankfully. But it’s still very scary.
