Promoting “Universal Healthcare” With Inflatable Numbers

Dire numbers from desperate folks… Michael Moore, John Edwards, Hillary Clinton, Barak Obama, and a handful of media talking heads out there LOVE to spout the 40,000,000+ number as some dire warning of the devastating crisis of the uninsured in America… problem is, they tend to be inflating those numbers by including people that aren’t really supposed to be included in the party.
So if this number is “inflated” then where are people GETTING this number to begin with. Simple… you take a Census report and you ignore the actual data included in it and sensationalize the TOTAL in the given report.
In 2005 the Census Bureau released a report, “Income, Poverty, and Health Insurance Coverage in the United States: 2005.” In it they cited the TOTAL number of uninsured in America at 46,577,000 people. You see that magical number? The remainder of the report is something that liberal politicians and sensationalist propagandists like Michael Moore.
Why not subtract the reported 9-10 million people who the Census Bureau quotes as “non-citizens”? 37 million left.
Why not pop the bubble of the “cannot afford” party by removing the 9 million the Census Bureau cited as making between $50,000 and $74,999 a year and the 9 million who make over $75,000 a year? 19 million left. Anyone making more than the median household income of $46,326 per year can afford insurance unless they’re living WELL beyond their means, but then they deserve that.
There are a HECK of a lot of people out there who do not carry health insurance BY CHOICE… me being one of them. I have dental coverage alone as I see no need to cover my medical expenses when I never seem to get sick enough to warrant a hospital visit.
So here you go from 15% of the total population (estimating the US population @ 300 million people) down to less than 7%. Not too staggering if you ask me.
Granted it WOULD be nice for everyone to be able to receive prompt and adequate medical attention whenever they need it but lying about it and expecting the government to fix it for you is not the way to accomplish anything. The only time government is prompt is if you owe them money.

You know I’m against national health care, but I think you’re wrong for not having coverage for yourself. What if you get in a car accident or very unexpectedly come down with cancer?
It’s a good financial decision to have health insurance. Especially for your kiddos.

Yeah, I agree. Get some health care for yourself!

My life insurance covers trauma. I had a long discussion with my policy manager. I’m good, thanks for the concern though
