Senate Votes To Block Trucking From Mexico

For once… I have to hand it to the Senate.

They have voted to cut off funding for a pilot program that would allow long haul trucks to freely enter the US from Mexico.

Par for the course, President Bush is threatening a Veto on the bill because he apparently favors an open and free border with Mexico and closing off the border would just “harm” our sparkling relations with Mexico. Forget the fact that we bend over to kiss their ass 24/7 only to get a big wet one spit in our face day in and day out from the Mexican Government.

The White House has issued statements assuring the public that “it has the necessary safeguards in place to ensure a safe and secure program.”

Ok, explain.

Mexico has NO national criminal database… Mexico has very loose vehicle standards for their trucking industry (a LARGE percentage of the trucks run in Mexico have malfunctioning brakes alone).

How in the world are we supposed to regulate a foreign countries trucking industry? Are we going to start pumping billions of our tax dollars into Mexico to “improve” their infrastructure? How about this… You get CRAP from us until YOU improve your standards to match or exceed our expectations and THEN, we’ll talk.
