Why I Will Be Buying An iPod Touch
Back when the iPhone came out my initial reaction was one of “That’s cool, but I don’t need a phone.”
I had numerous conversations with people about the iPhone and in every conversation I always said “I would buy one, if Apple would sell one without the phone.”
Well my day is here!
Apple has released the iPod Touch… which is essentially, and iPhone minus the phone and onboard camera.
The iPod Touch comes in 2 configurations the only change being storage space - either 8GB or 16GB.
They all come with the obvious ability to play music and movies and show off photos. The iPod Touch also has the ability to access the internet through 802.11 b/g wireless access and comes with the Safari browser and YouTube access.
One of the cooler features is the addition of the iTunes WiFi store (also available for the iPhone) which allows you to access the iTunes Music store from your iPod Touch or iPhone and purchase and download music on the go. The music downloaded will also sync to your desktop machine and play in iTunes so you don’t have to worry about authorizing your PC/Mac for iPod purchased music.
There’s ANOTHER WiFi feature that, while cool, is 100% useless to me yet SO like Steve Jobs to implement. Starbucks has a deal they will be implementing over the course of the next year to be available in ALL stores by 2009. Essentially it’s a Starbucks licensed iTunes Music Store. If you’re in the store and you hear a song you like, you simply access the WiFi iTMS and the last 5 songs played over the speakers in the store are available for purchase. I have yet to ever shop @ Starbucks so while cool I won’t be using it. It would be VERY cool of Apple to work out site specific stores like this for a multitude of locations but only time will tell on that one.

They’re also clearing out stocks of the 4GB iPhone for $299… That may be worth it…
