Obama beats McCain – In Europe… who cares

The media here in the US loves surveys like this… by some stretch of the imagination I’m supposed to care who Vladamir and Bobby want for President in my country.

A poll was run through Britain, France, Germany, Italy and Russia, asking people who they would like to see as President of the United States.

UK –
McCain: 14%
Obama: 49%
Neither: 13%
Don’t Know: 24%

France –
McCain: 8%
Obama: 65%
Neither: 14%
Don’t Know: 13%

Germany -
McCain: 6%
Obama: 67%
Neither: 17%
Don’t Know: 10%

Italy -
McCain: 15%
Obama: 70%
Neither: 7%
Don’t Know: 8%

Russia -
McCain: 24%
Obama: 31%
Neither: 28%
Don’t Know: 17%

I was actually shocked by Russia’s poll but aside from that… BIG DEAL. Hamas likes Obama, why would it shock anyone that the rest of Europe likes him too. He’s the least likely to stand up for the US in a struggle so obviously he’s their man.

This is major news for one reason, the press loves Obama and it’s more positive light for him and allows them to say his name a few more times before a commercial break.

Yes I know that the President has an impact abroad but there’s a little fact that people that aren’t CAN’T VOTE here that makes me wonder why they think they need to chime in.

Call me a hard nosed American snob all you want but you don’t see me giving a flying hoot who you elected in your elections… so why should I care who you think I should elect. Sorry… I don’t.

  • I’m from Canada and I’ve been following this election pretty closely. In fact, I’ve been following it more closely than the elections we have here.

I think that the reason the media wants to know stuff like this is because the US has such a strong worldwide presence that, no matter who the American people vote in, it’s going to affect us all.

  • We (foreigners) care because your current man has had quite an impact on the rest of the world while he’s been in.

I know your political stance is very introversial but some Americans care how outsiders view the country. And hell, is this really the least newsworthy thing you’ve seen?

I don’t think I prefer Obama because I think he’s going to sit on his hands if you ever need to go to war, rather because Republicans are indelibly stained as fickle warmongers in my head.

I know that might seem unfair but that’s the case. That’s what happens when you leave a chimp in control for this many years.

  • While I know you care the point of my post was that I don’t. I’ve read news articles of foreign folks who want a vote because it effects them… to which I say, you want a voice in my election? Immigrate.

I care about world issues but I don’t think enough of myself to tell the citizens of another country who I would love to see running their country.

To each his own I guess…

  • I am also in the “Who Cares” camp.
