‘The New Yorker’ and the Cry Baby for President

I’m sure by now you have all seen this “controversial” cover for the recent issue of The New Yorker. If not, take a peek below.

Here is why it is being reported as “controversial”… Obama is offended. That’s the ONLY reason this is big news. Had this been a cover with John McCain armed to the teeth with guns and knives stomping on little Muslims, Obama and his campaign staff would be yucking it up over a freshly opened bottle of champagne.

Poor little Obama… he doesn’t get satire very well. Apparently he missed the obvious commentary on the over blown scare mongering by many people bent on derailing the Obama campaign via information.

Just pull up media archives of interviews from numerous primaries, where voters were afraid vote for him because he was a Muslim, or reports that he hates America because he doesn’t wear a silly $2 Flag pin… THAT is what this cartoon is satirizing… it’s not “racist” or “insensitive” or any of the other crap the Obama and McCain campaigns want you to think it is.

The problem is that there is are still Americans who are out there spreading the rumor that Obama is a muslim, even as the big story about his Methodist Preacher was in endless loop. These same people are vaidation of the old statement, “A picture is worth a thousand words”. Yes, sadly our population is full of people who look for the books that have the pictures in them. This is why our news papers are written on such a low level. Heck, even the Editorial pages, which have traditionally been where a higher level of thought were usually found are written on the eighth grade level The New Yorker has been stuck in 1930s elitism with condescending humor.
Apparenlty their joke about how “gauche” average Americans are has given them the profits that they wished, even if it was totally blown out of proportion.
Stupid, yeah but too many people don’t keep up and when they see a cartoon, they buy it.

That was the point the New Yorker was making… most of these “he’s a Mooooslim!” fears are baseless and rumor… and they were satirizing the baseless fear of a candidate due to misinformation and ignorance.

Had Obama gone on the record and said something like “Man! They got my bad side” or made a passing joke about it, the cover would have faded into the ether…

Instead, he seized the moment and took a “poor poor me” approach and the media who are already in bed with the moron gobbled it up and it hit front page news above the fold.
