Is the Rock Star thing backfiring?
Barrack Obama is the media’s darling, their ‘rock star’ of the political process. Slap his face on a magazine and stores sell out, put him on your TV station and your ratings increase… he seems to have the Midas touch for anything and everything. One problem, it COULD lose him the election in November.
We’re three months out from yet another Presidential election and we’ve had campaigns running for what already seems like years now. Curious about the public opinion of all this Obama mania the Pew Research Center polled Americans asking them if they’re getting tired of hearing about Obama or McCain. 48% of those polled said they’re getting tired of Obama news and are hearing way too much about him.
Two-Thirds of Republicans, approximately half of Independents and One-Third of Democrats have been hearing way too much about the Senator.
I ask you, could hearing too much about a candidate actually cause them to LOSE an election?
I tend to say yes. Voter apathy is a VERY real thing and one very disastrous result of this ‘God-like’ persona that the media and the Obama followers have bestowed upon him is that people may just assume he’s got it in the bag and not bother to turn out.

I’d have to say, not backfiring. Yet. Because it’s not like there’s even 2 other choices to which to flock when people get tired of hearing of the “rock star candidate” they’ve already decided to support or not support. If I have an opinion about it, who’s the one actually bringing up the other candidate in his ads - thereby actually contributing to the sound bite overload? That’s hopefully something too obvious to not be taken into consideration. I have to say, green is not really McCain’s best color to wear - or anyone’s.
Well I don’t even see it as a “lost support” issue for Obama more than an apathy problem.
I’ve heard people say during past elections that they weren’t going to vote because it was already a foregone conclusion that they had it in the bag… only to feel like a dip when their “inevitable” candidate lost by a slim margin.
I honestly think Obama is going to have a LOT harder time fighting voter apathy than McCain is. Those of us voting for McCain KNOW that we have an uphill battle… it’s the Obamites that feel he’s a shoe-in with no chance of losing that could spell trouble for their candidate.
If over-saturation can damage a candidates chances of winning this election than I would have to say it’s in McCain’s best interest to keep Obama CONSTANTLY in the light so people get tired of him. Why wouldn’t he want his campaign to flounder?

Hardly new and fresh at this point. Before it was man, he’s impressive, even if I don’t agree with him. Now, I just don’t agree with him.
I don’t know if it’s backfiring, as in doing harm. More like the rockstar power-up is just blinking out.
