“He’s not MY President!”

I listen to several AM talk stations throughout the day and I’ve heard a lot of callers getting the boot from hosts for uttering the following line:

“I didn’t vote for Obama… He is NOT my President”

I have a short message to anyone who wants to throw a hissy fit for not getting the result they were hoping for from Tuesday’s election.

GROW UP

Every four years we hold an election to either re-elect our sitting President or vote in a new one… there is always a loser and we will never satisfy 100% of the citizens of this country but one thing always stays the same. No matter who we elect, they are to become the President of the United States of America. We don’t elect a President of the Democrats, or a President of the Republicans/Libertarians/Socialists.

We’ve had 8 years of “he’s not MY President from the left after Bush was elected and re-elected, why must we carry that torch through another term. Bitching and moaning about something like this does nothing to advance our country it just drags us through the mud and increases hostilities between the parties.

You do not have to buy into the political platform of the figurehead of this country but the office deserves respect no matter who is holding the title.

I will respect the President of the United States and he will be getting plenty of correspondence from me. I urge everyone out there to do the same. The least you can do is let it be known where YOU stand on the issues. Contact your Senators and State Representatives as well. You never know when your words might make a difference.

  • Well said, my friend.

  • Amen! And this isn’t even about “sinking to their level”, this is just about respect. We are all Americans here, he is the President of the United Sates of America, he IS OUR president. I have no doubt he loves this country, he does want what’s best for us, in his mind, just like Bush loved this country. He is our president.

  • I don’t doubt they’ll be getting correspondence from you, James! It’s all about checks and balances, baby. If you rescind then what do you have to say about not being an effective “check?”
As a head start, they’re already asking you for your ideas. ;)

  • Exactly James, I posted the same sentiment. I wouldn’t support Obama as my candidate, but I, as an American, will support him as my President regardless of my personal views or opinions.

You can read my writeup over on my blog:

  • agreed.

  • oh for crying out loud. it’s you lot that need to grow up. every time you say something remotely sensible it comes back to “the left did so we shouldn’t”

incase you missed all the nonsense in 2000 Bush didn’t win anything and you damn well know it. denying that the 2000 election was a sandbagging job and, because of that, the “people” considered the result bogus then they had the right to say “not my president, not even the actual bloody president of anything”

i get that you’re in denial because bush is, not to put too fine a point of it, an utterly incompetent, corrupt, lying, moron.

the sooner you accept that the sooner you can start to heal, and way too many of you need to heal, a lot!

    christ!

  • After such an intense, drawn-out battle for the Presidency, there are bound to be strong emotions. But the notion that he is not your president because you cast your vote another way comes across as bitter and childish. Thank you for calling those callers out on this, I couldn’t agree with you more.

  • I agree, James. One thing I will be paying attention to is what the people of the media call Obama. I have noticed for eight years that our current president is almost never referred to by the media as “President Bush.” Almost without exception, he is “Mr. Bush.” Since I was not listening for this during the Clinton years, I cannot remember whether he was mainly referred to as Mr. Clinton or President Clinton. I’m fully expecting Obama rarely to be called Mr. Obama. We shall see. If he is mostly President Obama, it will be yet another confirmation to me of extreme media bias. Surprise?!

It may not seem like my comment is related to your post, but it really is. I have had the distinct impression for the past 8 years that the media has subtly tried to convey the “he’s not our president” sentiment.

My position as a Bible believer is that we are to respect those whom God has put in authority over us. 1 Timothy 2:1-4 goes as far as telling us to pray for them. “First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people,
for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.”

When I think of some of the oppressive rulers and despots throughout the history of mankind, it’s amazing that God says in Romans 13:1-2 “Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment.”

So, as much as I disagree with Obama on many levels, I owe it to him to give him my respect for his office and to pray for him.

  • Rich,

In case you missed it, the lawsuit in which the Supreme Court issued it’s verdict in 2000 was NOT about handing the election to one man or the other, but rather the constitutionality of the recounts being done in Florida.

In a 7–2 vote, the Supreme Court in Bush v. Gore held that the Florida Supreme Court’s method for recounting ballots was a violation of the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. By a 5–4 vote, the Court held that no alternative method could be established within the time limits set by the State of Florida. Three of the concurring justices also asserted that the Florida Supreme Court had violated Article II, § 1, cl. 2 of the Constitution, by misinterpreting Florida election law that had been enacted by the Florida Legislature.

Even following the official counts with media agencies like the New York Times etc doing their own hand counts… turned up NO winning scenario for Al Gore.

The Florida recount debacle was 8 damned years ago… it’s history and I pray it never happens again, but being pissy about losing an election does NOTHING good for this country.

Barrack Obama is my President come 1/20/09… there is nothing I can do to deny him that title. I just hope he does good by it.

  • Rich,
wow, thank you for telling us how you really feel.
