My wife works early mornings to late evening, leaving no one to take the kids to school or pick them up, unless she too takes off work. $20 a day is hardly compensation for two peoples lost wages. I've done jury duty before and it's not too bad, the timing is just off on this one. I wouldn’t mind serving if we could afford the time off. I just went this past September. I was dismissed from on-call after the first day. Not sure what I said to be excused but I know I spoke truthfully. I wasn't even in the first 12 seats but in the runner up row. I was surprised when they excused some of the first runner up jurors and [just] me at the same time. Last year I had duty for grand jury so I was on-call for a month but I was never summoned. It was a bit disappointing both times in regards to not being able to serve on the jury. I did at least get to go through the jury selection process once and that, at least, was a little bit educational. There’s nothing wrong with jury duty. I just went this past September.
