This is exactly why I fear Obama because I think he’s going to be able to get away with things that are downright wrong for this country. And since half this country won’t pay attention to him and listens to all the “bad” things about the “evil others” he’ll be herald as “a great man” as our society teeters and we all sit around asking ourselves “uh, what happened?”. I hate to say it, but again, we’re just asking for another Hitler situation – hopefully minus the aftermath of his rise to power though…
Don’t get me wrong, I’m willing to let the man have a chance but I’ll be watching very carefully.
Our society has fetishized voting to such a huge degree that this is the result. An uninformed and likely illiterate mass of people selecting leaders in much the same manner as they “vote” for contestants on American Idol. I would guess that less than ten percent of the electorate are adequately informed about the issues and relative positions of the candidates. The rest go on instinct, or follow what their friends say to do, or just blindly vote on the party line.

This is scary. The way people are making uninformed desisions and haven’t looked at issues scares me.
