The munchkin and his rocket
Kim Jong Ill told the world he would launch his rocket and much to the complete lack of shock from normal folk, he lived up to his word this weekend. If you ask him and his State run media the launch was a wild success and North Korea has a satellite in orbit around the Earth broadcasting “patriotic songs” and transmitting data (as big a success as their nation wide power grid?).

The US, as well as the rest of the world knows their rocket more than likely needed something to drink and hit the Pacific Ocean… but it’s still their best rocket launch to date.
North Korea violated a UN Resolution calling for the country to cease any further rocket tests or nuclear testing… but, as was evidenced by our leader and several others around the world, the REASON these Resolutions from the UN amount to nothing more than a stern finger wag, is because NO ONE enforces them.
Not to say I have a solution but here’s a start. If you denounce such behavior, the way to curb it is NOT by stating that you’re annoyed. ACT on your words! If Obama comes out today and ACTUALLY lives up to his “talk is cheap” mantra from his comments following their test, then for once I will applaud the man for his follow through. Chances are, not much will come in the form of actions from President Obama or anyone else. Not to say I would be surprised.

The photo of the Korean peninsula is very telling. At the outbreak of the Korean War in 1950 the wealth was concentrated in the north. The heavy factories, the vast deposits of iron ore and coal all were in the north. The south relied primarily on farming. Things have changed. The south operates under a capitalist government while the north is totally socialist. One has free elections while the other a dictatorship. The photo tells the story of the two systems. I had seen the image once before, but had forgotten about it.
