Yesterday, Sen. Harry Coates made a statement about House Bill 1804 that is LAW in Oklahoma as of Nov 01 of this year. The bill blocks employment, housing, and government “tax payer funded” benefits to ANYONE in the US illegally (Emergency Care is still available).

In his statement, Coates said, “When you say that mothers who have dark skin should not be able to receive prenatal care, I find that racist.”

YES, Harry that WOULD be racist, but nowhere… NOWHERE in HB1804 does it comment on color, race, ethnicity or anything that could be racist in nature. NOTHING. Not ONCE has Randy Terrell said anything even remotely close to what you stated there so you’re WAY off base.

There are Hispanics in the US illegally, Russians, Germans, Iraqis, Asians, and on and on… YES the vast majority of the illegals we here in Oklahoma are dealing with HAPPEN to be Hispanic but this bill DOES NOT single out one person AT ALL based on race.

If you are here in violation of US FEDERAL law then you are here illegally and HB1804 applies to you if you’re standing on Oklahoma soil. END OF STORY.

Sen. Coates goes on to discuss the “unfair” economic impact this bill has on the construction industry and how he plans to introduce a bill to repeal the section on punishment of employers. Funny thing about the comments, he doesn’t mention once that he’s a contractor in the construction industry, who in large part BENEFIT from the virtual slave labor of illegal immigration. Could it be that Sen. Coates has an ulterior motive behind his opposition to the enforcement of HB1804?

His statement on the issue closed the issue for now, but leaves it open for a future run against the law.

The court has no doubt that Plaintiffs fervently believe in the unconstitutionality of HB 1804. The court’s holding today does not close the courthouse door to those wishing to challenge the constitutional soundness of HB 1804. by a sharpening of the issues presented prior to such a vetting. Such a sharpening can only be achieved through a suit brought by plaintiffs with well-defined injuries causally connected to HB 1804.

There is an election tomorrow to decide if the residents of Tulsa County in Oklahoma will approve an increase in their sales taxes to pay for development along the Arkansas River. The plan includes several low water dams to actually put WATER in the river, along with river parks, and retail development.

Now, that being said, here is an advertisement for that “plan” airing on TV the week leading up to the election. You tell me if this ad says “help us develop our river” or not:

Now let me break this bad boy down and give you my view of this ad.

Competing cities are voting YES for river development and are getting good jobs.

The closest city that could be considered ‘competing’ in any sense of the word would be Jenks, OK. Yes, they have a plan and will be developing on the river, but here’s the kicker. They are NOT using tax hikes to do so. The Jenks development is and will be funded by almost $1 Billion in private development funding. Any government involvement will be coming out of CURRENT budgets, not new ones. One KEY thing left out of the commercials and press conferences is that Tulsa County (notice they rarely ever say COUNTY) has not even begun a research plan with the Corps of Engineers to even see if their plan for the river will even get the green light to begin PLANNING the development. So vote yes and you’re sending your taxes to an account dedicated to a phantom project that could not even see the light of day. Sounds enticing doesn’t it?

NO, didn’t build Tulsa County.

This statement could be true about ANYTHING… BUT to claim that Tulsa County got where it is today because of people saying YES to every idea that could possibly progress the county is a fairy tale.

We won’t have another chance for a long, long time.

Wait… WHAT? Who says? Are you telling me that if the citizens of Tulsa County do not favor a regressive sales tax that we’re opting out of ALL development for 30 years or some crap? Come ON! You obviously think that we’re stupid if you think we can’t see through this BS.

Vote YES on Tuesday for good jobs for Tulsa and opportunity for all of us.

Read: We think Tulsa sucks and we want to force change via big government. If you vote NO… you think Tulsa sucks.

Too bad I can’t vote in THAT election… can you guess which way I would vote?

Coming up on October 9th is a vote for ALL citizens of Tulsa County to decide whether or not to hike your already bulging sales taxes an additional four tenths of a cent per dollar to raise the “necessary” $282 MILLION dollars needed to fund this proposed river development on the Arkansas River.

Private developers have already pledged $118 million dollars to develop on the river, the only problem is, the proponents of a tax increase failed to announce that those private donations are there with or WITHOUT a tax increase.

They’ll tell you that the whole project is supposed to pay for several low water dams along the river to fill up the dry bed known as the Arkansas “River” as it is now… but what they won’t tell you is that those low water dams were already paid for with tax increases from the Vision 2025 project. Nor will they tell you that a mere 27 days out from the tax vote, the Corps of Engineers have not issued a permit to even THINK about building a dam. They haven’t even been asked to START proceedings to issue a permit for the dams.

They claim to need almost $300 million dollars from taxpayers to fill a river and build some dams, but don’t want you to pay ANY attention to a nearly $1 BILLION dollar river development already in the works in Jenks that is funded completely with private sector funds without raising taxpayers burden ONE CENT. After all, we ALL know that the government is the one who needs to control commercial development. The private sector has NO business doing the governments job FOR them.

While we’re on the “it’s the government’s job” point… has anyone driven ANYWHERE in Tulsa in the last 10 years? If you have, you can personally vouch for our glowing rank amongst the nations worst roads and bridges. Tulsa ranks amongst the Top 10 WORST roads in the country, yet we’re raising taxes to pay for luxury items.

Kathy Taylor and Randi Miller need to pull their heads out of the sand. If you need $300 million dollars to better Tulsa County, you need it to go towards infrastructure. How do you propose we GET to the river once our bridges and roads fail us?

This just in, Kathy Taylor seems to think that the Mayoral position in Tulsa is one of a dictatorial nature, and not a managerial one.

Tulsa has had to make due with an interim police chief as Kathy Taylor tries to skirt the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) charter to appoint a political lackey as police cheif rather than someone pledged to public service.

The FOP Charter states that if there are three internal candidates for police chief, that the new chief is to be chosen from the internal selection. Kathy Taylor claims that this is somehow “not the right of the FOP to choose their own chief.”

Kathy Taylor offered the job to Deputy Chief Bill Wells in a recent discussion but after the details of his “duties” became clear he declined stating that he does not believe that the police chief should be an employee of the Mayor.

“She made it clear to me that it would not be a job with civil service protection. It would be one of her political appointments. I couldn’t accept that. It would have destroyed my credibility. I don’t think it would be good for the citizens or my fellow officers to have a politically controlled Police Department.”

Well sir, I have to agree. Our police department is not directly involved with city politics and that is a GOOD thing. Turning the police department into a politically controlled entity is just asking for massive political corruption. Would you want a political puppet running YOUR police department?

This coming from the same city government that can’t see how developing a 12 million dollar riverfront center is possible without it being 100% taxpayer funded (while nearby Jenks is already in planning stages for a 1 BILLION dollar riverfront complex using 100% private investments), while also using taxpayer funds to build a pedestrian bridge (complete with observation deck) that passes directly above the overflow land for the waste treatment plant.

Tulsa, I said it during the elections and I’ll say it again. You get what you ask for. You wanted to oust one of your better mayors for some “change” and look what you get… CHANGE.

I love turning to the Letters section of the Tulsa World as you’re pretty much guaranteed to find one gem or more a day.

I just so happened across one this morning.

This is so typical of the Bush administration. Its arrogance toward the American people has been: “If you do not agree with me you are either unAmerican or not smart enough to understand.”

Why do we have a court of law if our president is going to overturn the conviction of a crime? The judge gave Scooter Libby a stiff sentence, but I thought it deserving since our elected officials should be setting examples for us, instead of lying, cheating and bending the laws whenever it suits them.

If you break the law you should be held accountable no matter who you are. But I guess the laws do not apply to “the decider,” as he has so often reminded us, and his bullies.

Now, before I get into the many ways in which I disagree with our lovely liberal here I have to say that she does make some valid points. Mainly, that I agree that “in theory” our politicians shouldn’t be any less accountable for their actions than anyone else in America. In fact I think they should be under MORE scrutiny than the average American.

Now, the reason this letter really bugs me is that she implies that Bush’s recent decision to commute the sentence of former White House aid Scooter Libby is somehow outside of his legal grasp. Somehow, by the President commuting a sentence, he’s above the law and is making a mockery of our Judicial system?

I direct you to Article II Section 2 of the US Constitution:

“The President … shall have power to grant reprieves and pardons for offenses against the United States, except in cases of impeachment.”

Now, since Scooter Libby was not impeached the President of the United States (George Bush or not) is well within his rights to commute his sentence. I know it’s hard to filter through the mountain of BS on the TV News programs but Libby was NOT pardoned.

I’ve never understood polling… it’s either horribly biased or completly innacurate and people always act as if the results of polling data is the etched in stone truth.

The Tulsa World published the results of their recent poll regarding the race for the Presidency in 2008. Here are their results:

Now, as reported… at first glance you can see that these results only show the top winners in the poll, and that there is a decided favorite among Oklahoma Republicans and mixed wishes amongst Oklahoma Democrats.

That’s when things got fuzzy.

Oklahoma has around 1.7 million registered voters as of the 2004 election cycle… the number of people polled for this data… 726. So here we have data from 0.41% of the registered voters of Oklahoma that is somehow supposed to represent how the state would vote if the election was tomorrow. Right.

I see it all the time, polls that are supposed to represent how the nation feels when 1,200 people have been sampled. Yet the resulting data is trumpeted on the major news media as if every last registered voter had weighed in on the issue.

Why this was front page news…?

Governor Brad Henry signed HB1804 into law yesterday, making Oklahoma the first state in the country to enact such strict laws aimed at blocking the currently overwhelming flow of illegal aliens in the state.

Here is a breif summary of the bill from the Oklahoma government:

HB 1804 makes it a felony to knowingly transport, conceal or harbor an illegal alien. Persons found in violation and convicted may receive up to one year in prison and/or a fine not less than $1,000. Since this is a new felony there is insufficient data available on the occurrence of this crime. The fiscal impact would be dependent upon the number of adjudicated cases.

HB 1804 requires all public employers to enter into a contract for the physical performance of services within this state or register and participate in the federal Status Verification System to verify the work authorization status of all new employees. The Department of Labor is required to prescribe forms and promulgate rules and regulations necessary to administer the program and post the rules and regulations on its web site. The Department of Labor estimates annual expenses to create, post, and mail forms at approximately $2,000.

HB 1804 directs the Attorney General to negotiate the terms of a Memorandum of Understanding between the State of Oklahoma and the United States Department of Justice or the United States Department of Homeland Security concerning the enforcement of federal immigration and custom laws, detention and removals, and investigations in the State of Oklahoma. According to the Attorney General’s office, there will not be a fiscal impact associated with this requirement.

As usual, the news here spent 20 of the 25 min block for the story on the side of the illegal aliens giving us sob story upon sob story testemonial about how they’re simply misunderstood and my favorite line… “we’re NOT criminals”.

Last time I checked, sneaking into this country is AGAINST THE LAW. When you break a law, you’re a criminal. End of story.

Here we are, closing in on our time to shine in the pockets of every American… the Oklahoma Quarter design is in the final stages and we’re down to 5 designs.

Here is where the “controversy” comes in…

Four out of the five finalists for the state Quarter program depict a famous statue of the Pioneer woman that resides in Ponca City, OK. (shown below)

According to the US Mint, who is producing these quarters in batches of five a year for ten years (1999-2008), coins details cannot include state seals, flags, or logos for specific commercial, educational, religious, sports teams etc.

Well apparently the bible that is seen clutched in the right hand of the pioneer woman in the statue was deemed inappropriate by the US Mint due to it’s exclusivity to Christian religions. The design of the pioneer woman doesn’t seem to fall outside of the rules, just the fact that she’s weilding a bible, that upon minting wouldn’t even resemble anything short of a large book to the naked eye.

I’d give them a bit of slack if the state was wanting to plaster the back of our quarter with bible verses and crosses etc… but correct me if I’m wrong here… the bible in question would be roughly the size of ONE letter in the inscription that seems to bristle the hairs of our countries athiest activists…
