Michael Reagan is Disgusted with California
Mike Reagan, the son of Ronald Reagan (IMHO one of our Top 5 greatest Presidents) issued a reaction to the ruling in California that the states law banning gay marriage was unconstitutional.
“We have seen this time and time again, Democracy usurped, the voters wishes do not matter, whether its Proposition 187 or the Gay Marriage Ban, its no longer ‘We the People,’ it is now, ‘They the Judges’ who make the decisions in the Golden State. As the son of a former Governor of this state I am disgusted.”
Mike… the “people” could vote in a bill with 100% of the vote that bans Catholics from California and it is the job of the courts to rule on the constitutionality of the laws when dealing with legal battles. It’s the right of the people to challenge the validity of the law in a court of law and they did so. It’s not that their vote doesn’t count, it’s that their votes flew in the face of the human rights of those the law opposed.
Homosexuals are a part of this country, and denying them civil rights because your religious beliefs do not agree with their lifestyle does not mean you can turn them into second class citizens. I have yet to hear a valid argument as to why a law or a constitutional amendment to ban same sex marriage would be a GOOD thing for this country.
